Lynn - 2003

Being born and raised in Okinawa, Okinawan dance and music has a special place in my heart. I have always "wanted to learn more about my heritage. And, by joining Frances Nakachi Ryubu Dojo I have been given a great opportunity to do so.  Starting from scratch, Okinawan dance is quite challenging and lots of hard work. But all the time and effort is worth it, when I am performing with everyone.

Jo - March2007

I love Okinawan Dance

Ellise - 2002

My biggest defining moment was my debut; my 1st stage appearance at the Okinawan Festival. It was great and I loved being on stage. Even though I was a little scared, after a while I got comfortable and I really feel liked I accomplished something. I love to dance because I love moving to the rhythm of the music.  I love drumming and music beats are incredible. I also love challenging movements, so Okinawan dance is perfect for me. My greatest struggle is the mental part. I want to perform in this recital, but yet I am scared I won't do as well as I want to. But practicing and being prepared will help me to deal with my fears.  Dance for me builds my self-confidence in what I do.  It also builds my mental concentration because I have a very hard time with the slow moving songs.  I'm used to a fast paced life, so slowing down is difficult for me to concentrate and focus on.

Stephanie - May 2002

I wanted to dance because it is so pretty. I love Okinawan dance because it is so much fun and it is my favorite. It was hard during practice to do things over and over again. My goal is to he a dance student, even when I grow up. Dance for me is the pleasure of dancing on stage for the public.

Cassandra - September 2001

I joined our dojo because we have a nice sensei and she's pretty too.  I like the music and the beat. I want to improve my hand motions like turning my hand nicely. And, I want to be a good dancer like sensei. My goal is to perform the best that I can be in the drum dance. My biggest challenge in getting ready for the recital is to keep my eye make-up from smearing.

Cameryn - September 2002

I love to dance because I can hop, jump, run and fan for the audience (in Mamidoma). My greatest struggle for the recital is getting ready (putting on makeup).
